The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) has appointed Ravi Uday Bhaskar as Director General (DG) of the council after the retirement of P V Appaji, who served the council as DG for 12 years from 2004 to 2016.
Ravi Uday Bhaskar holds M Pharma degree and has worked as drugs inspector in the state of AP, 1989; Drugs Control Administration of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana; and General Manager, Andhra Pradesh Medical Services Corporation.
He had joined Pharmexcil as additional executive director in 2015 and now has assumed office as Director General, Pharmexcil on December 30, 2016
He is also the secretary general of All India Drugs Control Officers Confederation (AIDCOC) since last 12 years and was president of AIDCOC from 1999-2003.
He has also received number of commendations from government of Andhra Pradesh for outstanding contribution as regulator and recipient of life time achievement award in the year 2013 during 65th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress.
Pharmexcil was setup by ministry of commerce and industry, Government of India under the provisions of Foreign Trade Policy in May 2004, with headquarters at Hyderabad.
Pharmaceutical products, like bulk drugs (APIs), formulations, Biotech Products, Indian Systems of medicines, herbal products, diagnostics, clinical research, etc. are covered under its purview. Pharmexcil takes up several trade promotion activities by organizing trade delegations outside India, arranging buyer-seller meetings, international seminars, interaction with central and state government agencies, Indian overseas missions etc.
