Elaborating on the challenges of organ donation Dr. Parag Rindhani, Central Head Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai central said, “We are happy to unite with Ghatkopar Medical Association and participating Nobel cause which will save many lives in future. Organ donation is an honourable thing and we must all do our effort to promote in public places. Organ donation drive requires involvement of the civil society, religious leaders and other stakeholders in creating awareness. A brain-dead person can donate liver, kidneys; cornea, pancreas, heart, skin and bone marrow which will help minimum 6 in need people.”

Ghatkopar Medical Association (GMA) has conducted many such events in the past to make awareness about organ donation.

Every year, more than 5 lakh Indians lose their lives waiting for organs. With less than 500 Cadaveric donations (from a deceased donor) taking place last year, India has an Organ Donation rate of 0.5 person/ million individuals, one of the lowest in the world. In a nation of over a billion people, there’s not even 1 donor in a million.
