Love and Prince Can now stand with support

  • Twins conjoined at birth, successfully separated at Wadia Hospital on 12th December,2017
  • 12-hour surgery on twins was performed as they were conjoined at abdomen and hip
  • After a year, surgery for bony reconstruction is required they will be ready to go to school.

After six weeks of surgery conjoined twins Love and Prince are ready to get discharged from Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for children, Parel. Love and Prince were conjoined at the abdomen and hip. Three organs, liver, intestine and urinary bladder were common for both.

Doctor from Wadia Hospital says, “Medically they are referred as xiphiomphaloischiopagus, tetrapus conjoined twins. They had gone through uneventful but long postoperative recovery. They were on ventilator for a week and in ICU for 3 weeks. Wound management was ordeal as abdomen was kept open only covered by mesh, they underwent multiple dressings under anesthesia with vacuum dressings, collagen applications and recovered miraculously without any complications. Wounds have almost healed and now family is all set to go home. Children now don’t have to share diapers rather won’t be needing diapers, they have control over urine and stools the way other children of their age can have. Multidisciplinary rehab program has been designed for their follow up which is going to monitor their growth, development, nutrition, liver function, immunisation and exercise regime for lower limbs. One more surgery after a year or so for bony reconstruction (osteotomies) with revision of abdominal closure and they will be ready to literally run for the school”.

Dr. Minnie Bodhanwala, CEO, Wadia Hospitals says, “This is the 3rd successful case in a row for us to operate on conjoined twins. It gives me immense pleasure to share that the babies are getting discharged from the hospital. It was quite a challenging case for us but the medical team and the nursing staff took excellent care of the patients and now they are set to go home.
We at Wadia hospital always believe that nothing is impossible in this world if your hard work and efforts are aligned in the correct direction. Babies are now treated with Physiotherapy and will be called for proper follow up with the doctors in future. Yes this is another feather in our cap”.

Parents, Sheetal and Sagar Zalte says, “We are extremely happy to see our babies stand with support with deformed gait and are getting discharged from the hospital and they are hale and hearty. The recovery of our babies was good. The doctors and nursing staff took good care of our babies not only in ICU but also in wards and I am thankful to them from the bottom of our hearts. We are glad that Institute’s like Wadia Hospitals exists in today’s world. The operative procedure of our babies was very much challenging and was done seamlessly in the hospital.
